But, in the manga, yukari, a tank loving nerd, is the main character.

In the series, Miho was the main character, the quiet new girl who becomes friends with cheerful Saori and delicate Hana quickly. First of all, they totally changed the main character. Reminder: I have only read volume 1 so my thoughts so far are limited. Then a week or two ago I was at the library looking for one last manga before I left and I saw it, I didn't know they made a manga but okay! So I picked it up and here we are now. It took me a couple of months to finish since I was really not expecting an anime about. Then I saw it, girls und panzer, I was confused why's it spelt und and not and? What's a panzer? So I decided, I was gonna watch it. It was a typical afternoon, I was eating leftover Chinese food and decided that all the anime I was watching at the moment were boring and I wanted to watch a new one so, I entered Netflix and began scrolling. :)īefore I get into my full fledged review, let me explain how I found this weird anime that I love very much. My favorite part of the book is when generally sleepy and brilliant Mako Reizei steps in to drive the tank when Hana Isuzu faints after briefly skimming through the driving manual. The mangaka Ryohichi Saitaniya does a great job mixing opposing art styles and is able to bring the emotional states for the girls to life through animated expressions as they learn the importance of team work, guts, and strategy in the field of combat and life (Or maybe I am just over thinking this because it is only the 1st volume and ends in a cliff hanger.) Introducing Yukari Akiyama we find out she is a tank otaku early on in the story before we even meet the rest of her eventual team at school, Each member of her team has their own unique personality and skill set that helps them when they get their first chance in the magnificently drawn tanks which are a stark contrast art wise compared to much softer girls who use them. :)Īt first I was not sure what to think when one of my friends brought me this book to read but who am I to look down on a book just because it sounds like a strange mash up to draw girls and boys alike. This book is rated Teen by the people at Seven Seas Entertainment and has scenes of tank combat though as of yet no casualties due to some kind of mechanic that once struck a tank is immobilized and a white flag pops up (at least I think that is how it works from the one clean hit I saw.) In my opinion any subtle sexuality can be easily missed by anyone younger then a teen if you wish to allow slightly younger readers to go through this book so long as you are okay with them reading about the elegant womanly art of Tankery.
